LSA 45 lead-screw actuators (NEMA 17)
The LSA 45 is the default Z axis in the engine's XYZ systems: a NEMA 17 motor turning a precision lead screw through a self-locking nut, over 50, 100, or 250 mm of travel, with ±0.025 mm repeatability. Five leads let the same actuator be tuned for force (1 mm/rev, 20 mm/s) or speed (25.4 mm/rev, 500 mm/s).
Configurations are parallel-mount (motor beside the screw, shortest overall length) or inline (motor behind the screw, lowest cost), stepper or servo. Inline steppers start at $750 for 50 mm; parallel-mount servos top out at $1,225 for 250 mm. The 6.35 mm lead — 150 mm/s with the full 7 kg rating — is the usual choice for lab and pick-and-place Z axes, and the engine maps your Z speed target to the lead automatically.

Rated load and speed are catalog maximums for the configuration shown; "—" means the figure depends on the motor curve at your speed — the engine computes it. All prices are U.S. list, single quantity.
Not sure which one?
Describe the task — payload, travel, speed, orientation. The engine picks the family and the variant, shows the torque and inertia math, and prices the whole system.
Frequently asked
Will an LSA 45 hold position with power off?
At the 1 and 2.54 mm leads the nut is self-locking for modest payloads; at coarser leads or for safety-rated holding specify a brake, which the engine adds to the quote.
Parallel or inline?
Parallel-mount keeps the overall length short at the cost of about $100; inline is the lowest-cost and narrowest option. The engine picks whichever clears the assembly.
What is the maximum Z payload?
7 kg rated at 6.35 mm lead and finer. For 15 kg use the LSA 60; for continuous duty or more thrust use the BSA ball-screw family.
